Clinical trials and real-world evidence have long been viewed as complementary, yet they remain separated by differences in populations, treatment pathways, endpoints, data quality, and causal assumptions. This panel examines how far the field has progressed in truly connecting the two—from using RWD to inform trial design and external comparators to integrating trial and real-world evidence for effectiveness, safety, and regulatory decision-making—and asks the critical question: what is scientifically achievable today, and what remains unresolved?
