MTE #28: Spontaneous Bacterial Peritonitis (Ticketed)
Sun, Nov 8, 2026 · 7:00–7:45 AM MST Convention Center: Room 4A, Colorado Convention Center
About this session
Primary and secondary prophylaxis for spontaneous bacterial peritonitis (SBP) has been a cornerstone of cirrhosis management for decades, informed by early studies suggesting a survival benefit and reduced infectious complications. As a result, long-term antibiotic prophylaxis has become routine practice for many persons with advanced liver disease. Emerging evidence, however, is challenging this paradigm.
