S1104 - Global Solutions to Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)
Wed, Mar 19, 2025 · 8:30–9:40 AM CET Shanghai 1-2 Room, Congress Center Basel
About this session
The panel will examine the opportunities and challenges with R&D and access to antibiotics from three perspectives - that of a drug developer (early-stage discovery and clinical development), a regulator, and a healthcare provider. Michael Lobritz, MD, PhD, will provide a perspective from that of a drug developer, exploring how research and development of new antibiotics to combat drug resistant bacterial pathogens remains a substantial scientific challenge, requiring energy, engagement and innovation across sectors. Afterwards, Dr Julia Anna Bialecki, will focus on discussing the various challenges to ensuring and maintaining access to effective antibiotics in acute inpatient care, and the opportunities that academic investigator-led research provides for complementing the R&D pathway to improve access globally.
