Panel Discussion: From Recycle to Upcycle: How a cross-industry collaboration to harmonize concepts and terminology on measures of physical activity is advancing a shared standard for digital measures

Tue, Nov 3, 2026 · 3:15–3:40 PM EST Pfizer Innovation Research Lab

About this session

Last year at this summit, a panel discussed a "reduce, reuse, recycle" approach to digital measures: consolidating fragmented evidence from public-private partnerships into a shared, searchable foundation. One challenge acknowledged was that physical activity, one of the most widely captured digital measure domains, may have limited success getting regulator buy-in until the field agrees on what it means.

The Physical Activity Harmonization Mission, launched this past summer, takes that next step. Six sponsoring organizations across pharma, academia and tech, together with DEEP Measures, are building a disease-agnostic conceptual framework, refined through a Delphi consensus process with more than 30 stakeholders, including patients, clinicians and regulators.

Panelists will share how this work is advancing a common standard, where consensus has been hardest to reach, and what a harmonized foundation means for the return on investment in digital measures.
